掛け軸も、実に多彩。素朴な大津絵のような作品もあれば、明朝の宣帝の筆と伝わる、狗図のような作品もある。宋図の繊細な手法で、親子の二匹の犬が、愛くるしい様子で描かれている。

昨年、改装されて、大々的にリニューアル・オープンされた東京駅。その中にあった東京ステーションギャラリーも、従来の場所から移動して、再オープンした。
リニューアル・オープンの、駅をテーマにした展覧会も訪れた。リニューアルしてから、ここを訪れるのは、これで3回目だろうか。
今回の展覧会は、ブリティッシュ・カウンシル・コレクションにみる英国美術の現在、という副題がついている。
イギリスと言えば、少し以前に、上野の東京都美術館でターナー展が開催され、この展覧会と期を同じくして、森アーツセンターギャラリーではラファエル前派展を、三菱一号館美術館では、19世紀の耽美主義の展覧会が開催されている。
この東京ステーションギャラリーで開催されたのは、テーマが現代アートで、上記の3つの展覧会とは、少し違った内容になっていた。
ブリティッシュ・カウンシルは、いわゆる建物としての美術館や展示施設を有していない。コレクションは、特製のクレート(木箱)という容器に入れられ保管され、展覧会が開催される地まで運ばれる。

まるで、それぞれのアーティストの家を、友人として訪れている、というイメージだろうか。それが、実に心地よい。
アーティスト達の経歴を見ると、イギリスの権威あるターナー賞の受賞者達もあり、いずれも一流の現代アーティスト達だ。
そうした、ターナー、ロセッティなどの後継者たちの作品から、文字通り、英国美術の現在の姿を伺うことができる。
