とにかく、一枚一枚の、版画の見事さに目を奪われる。
夜の闇、しんしんと降り続ける雪、夕日や朝日の微妙な光、強い横風の中で斜めに降る雨など、絵画でも表現すこと自体が難しいテーマを、版画を使って、見事に表現している。
勿論、その元となる絵画の出来が悪ければ、いかの版画の技術が優れていても、完成品としての出来は半減する。

その5枚の版木も合わせて展示され、いかに刷り師の力量が、版画の完成度に影響を与えているかが、よくわかる。
残念ながら、巴水の作品の版木の多くは、関東大震災による火災によって、消失してしまう、残っている物は、ごくわずかだという。
巴水の版画は、太平洋戦争以前にも、アメリカで評判を得ていたという。
戦争が終わり、日本に駐在していたアメリカ兵の中は、帰国の土産に、巴水の版画を買い求める者が多かった。それは、巴水の絵、ということでなく、そこに描かれている風景が、いかにも日本的だったからだ。
